Zero-Data Promise

SaaS Detective operates on a local-first architecture. All detection happens on your device using bundled signatures. We do not operate servers that store your browsing history, personal data, or usage patterns — because we never receive any of it.

01 Data Collection & Usage

We comply fully with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the "Limited Use" requirements. Here is a complete account of what we do and do not collect:

Personal Data: We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, or any personally identifiable information.
Browsing History: We do not track, log, or transmit your browsing history. The extension scans the active tab only when you explicitly click the extension icon to trigger a scan.
Technology Detection: All detection — identifying tools like Shopify, React, or HubSpot — happens locally on your device using a bundled signature database. No page data leaves your machine.
Preferences: Your category filter preferences are saved via Chrome's chrome.storage.sync API. This data is managed entirely by Chrome and is never transmitted to our servers.

02 Affiliate Disclosure

SaaS Detective is supported by affiliate partnerships with SaaS companies. To ensure full compliance with Google's Direct Benefit policy and FTC guidelines, we adhere to the following:

No Automatic Injection: We never automatically inject, replace, or modify links on websites you visit.
Explicit User Action: Affiliate links are generated only when you actively click a "Visit" button within the extension's popup UI.
Transparent Routing: When you click a partner link, you are redirected through an affiliate tracking URL. At that point, the third-party affiliate network may collect your IP address to attribute the referral. This is disclosed here and in the extension interface.
Your Choice: You are never required to use affiliate links. Declining does not affect the extension's functionality in any way.

03 Permissions Justification

We request only the minimum permissions required for the extension to function. Below is a complete breakdown of each permission and its purpose:

Permission	Why we need it
activeTab	Grants temporary access to the current tab only after you click the extension icon. Access is revoked when you navigate away.
scripting	Injects the detection script into the active tab when you trigger a scan. Required to read page structure and identify technologies.
storage	Saves your category filter preferences using Chrome's sync storage. No data is sent to external servers.
host_permissions	Allows the content script to run on HTTP and HTTPS pages. Required to detect tools on any website you choose to scan.

04 European Users — GDPR

Because SaaS Detective does not collect personally identifiable information, we do not operate as a Data Controller or Data Processor under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). No personal data is transferred to servers operated by Venom Industries LLC from users in the European Union or European Economic Area.

05 Third-Party Services

When you click an affiliate link, you are directed to a third-party website. Those websites operate under their own privacy policies, which we do not control and are not responsible for. We recommend reviewing the privacy policy of any third-party site before submitting personal information.

06 Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify users via the Chrome Web Store listing. Continued use of the extension after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
